Take a little bit of the soulful styling’s of Al Green, a generous splash of that traditional Gospel quartet sound, add a pinch of old school R&B with a teaspoon of Urban grooves and stir them together with the silky smooth voice of Paul Porter and you have Paul Porter’s first solo release, “A New Day”. With two decades as the award winning Christianaires front man, Paul Porter has taken the best of Gospel and infused it with his own unique soulful punch. Sure to be one of the most anticipated gospel recordings of 2008, “A New Day” gives that traditional gospel quartet sound an edgy update and those R&B grooves a spiritual injection. Includes the hit single “What Did You Do?”

Gospel Mix ’08 is different from the WOW series, however, in that Disc Two is comprised entirely of music videos. The set also includes more quartet offerings than is typical for the annual WOW collection, and while most of the songs on the mix are current singles, others are emerging hits, such as Evelyn Turrentine-Agee’s “God’s Been Good “ and Martha Munizzi’s “Change the World.”
Especially appealing in the collection are “He Always Makes a Way” and “More of You,” courtesy of Zacardi Cortez, the church-wrecking lead vocalist on James Fortune and FIYA’s hit, “The Blood.” A bittersweet entry is “Speak to Me” by Rosalyn Brunswick McDuffie, a gospel singer who left the earth this year way too young and with her talent in full blossom.
Some of the videos on Disc Two are visual reprises of tracks included on Disc One, but the bonus disc also includes alternate selections by Disc One artists as well as groups that didn’t appear on Disc One at all, such as Shei Atkins, Manifest, Shawn McLemore and Chozen.

With his previous group, 4HIM, Marty Magehee has sold over 5 million albums worldwide, achieved 26 #1 singles, won 9 Gospel Music Association Dove awards, and earned a Grammy nomination. But that is far from the whole story. A multi-instrumentalist and man of great faith, Magehee is crafting a solo career in which he can lay his innermost feelings bare and provide comfort and peace to all like-minded music lovers. Though he was a big part of 4HIM’s signature sound, it’s definitely not an accurate portrayal of his full range of influences. His personal and aggressively honest material has bite that he feels is missing from Christian music on the whole. This forceful vehicle for his message will confront the listener and enable them to sort through their troubles. “No conviction, no redemption,” says Magehee. “For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been wired with a sense of creative urgency to echo whatever God is trying to communicate at that particular time. I feel that he needs us to be honest with Him and each other.” Marty Magehee’s music is powerful, encouraging and freeing. Musically, it’s at times raw, at times aggressive, at times reflective and simple. But it’s all a fresh, honest, look into a man whose convictions and questions are an open book.
Hip-hop artist KABOOSE is poised to unleash his Syntax Records debut entitled “Excuse Me” on October 14th. Armed with only a microphone and the Syntax in-house production team, the Minnesota emcee serves up 15 heaters- all full of unapologetic truth. While it’s his first full-length album on Syntax Records, this is far from an introduction. Through years of pounding the pavement as a full-time emcee and his national appearances on the Night Owls series, he has built a strong fan base that is more than ready for “Excuse Me”.
Since it's experimental origins in the late 1970's, electronic music has never been more popular than it is today. Combine that with global reports of more people than ever having some form of faith or spiritual belief, and it's easy to see why the time is ripe to fuse the electronica genre with lyrics of faith.
